Step-by-Step Guide: Launching Your Business Branded Channel on YouTube

This post is part 3 of 3 in the series How To Start a Business Branded YouTube Channel

Here is a straightforward, no-fluff guide to launching your business branded channel on YouTube. This comprehensive walkthrough covers every essential step you need to get started.

No confusing jargon, just clear, actionable instructions. Best of all, everything you need to do is free, and you can easily use tools like Canva to create your channel’s visuals.

Let’s get you set up and ready to share your brand with the world on YouTube:

How Do I Start a Business Branded Channel on YouTube

Step 1: Open YouTube

Before you start, make sure you’re signed into the personal Google account you want to connect to your business branded channel. This is the account that will manage your brand channel and receive notifications from YouTube.

Once signed in, head over to YouTube to begin setting up your channel.

Step 2: Go to the Channel Switcher

Visit youtube.com/channel_switcher. You need to use this exact link to create your business brand account. If you don’t, you will accidentally create a new personal account and then have to switch it later to a brand account.

You can’t move on until your brand account is set up correctly, so take the time to get this right now.

Step 3: Create a Brand Account Channel

This will create a Brand Account channel, which is automatically separate from your personal channel but still managed through your personal Google account:

  • Click Create a channel
  • Enter your business or brand name
  • Click Create

Step 4: Manage Your Brand Account

Confirm Your Channel Name: Go to myaccount.google.com/brandaccounts to rename your channel if needed, upload your profile icon, or add team members who’ll help you run the channel.

  • Key Tip: let them know this ain’t final. They can tweak or even completely change it at any time.

Upload Banner Image: You’ve already created your banner. Now upload it and double-check how it looks on desktop, mobile, and TV screens to make sure it displays well everywhere. If needed, tweak it in your Canva or your chosen image editor until you get the look you like.

  • Key Tip: Sometimes, templates don’t let the text show correctly on various devices. So, be sure to test it on a desktop/laptop and a mobile device.

Upload Profile Picture: Upload the channel icon you selected earlier. This image will appear next to your videos and YouTube comments on your channel as well as others. So, make sure (we don’t use words like “ensure”) it’s clear, recognizable, and represents your brand to the fullest.

  • Key Tip: Don’t spend too much time on it though. You can always come back later after building your brand a bit and redesign your entire branding if you like. Just don’t let this slow you down from launching your channel.

Add Channel Name: Your channel name should already be in this field by default. Confirm it is correctly spelled, including any unique spellings, capitalizations, hyphens, etc… Remember, this is how people will identify your business YouTube channel when bragging about it to their own associates.

  • Key Tip: This can also be changed later. It’s not set in stone. So, a generic name is fine for now.

Add Channel Handle: Your handle starts with “@” and is unique to your channel. It helps viewers tag you and becomes part of your YouTube URL. You might need to try different variations to find an available handle that fits your brand.

  • Key Tip: Be professional here, unless your brand is about that life!

Write Your Channel Description: You’ve drafted this already. Make sure your description is uploaded exactly as planned, including relevant keywords to improve search visibility.

  • Key Tip: Run it through spellcheck before you launch. If this is meant to be a professional profile, you may wanna slap it through Grammarly too.

Add Contact Email: Use the professional email address you chose earlier. This email will be publicly listed on your channel, so make sure you monitor it regularly for verification and other important messages from Google.

  • Key Tip: If you choose a free email, at some point, be sure to consider upgrading to your own domain email address.

Add Links to Website or Social Media: Add links to your brand’s official website and business social media pages and groups, not personal profiles. This to help viewers connect with your brand across platforms.

  • Key Tip: Use the same style of branding across all your social media platforms.

Customize Channel Layout: Set up how your channel homepage appears by organizing featured sections and video displays. You can do this now or wait until you have more content to showcase your best videos.

  • Key Tip: If you’re smart, you’ll come back to this later. Many folks have put off starting their channels indefinitely just because this part overwhelmed and discouraged them. Just walk away for now.

Verify Your Channel: Verify your channel to confirm your identity as the business owner or creator. This unlocks extra features like custom thumbnails and longer videos. Usually, verification involves submitting a phone number and following Google’s instructions.

  • Key Tip: If you have a business number, use that instead of your personal mobile phone.

Follow these steps carefully to launch your business branded channel the right way—no shortcuts, no fluff. Once your channel is live, keep building your brand with consistent content and smart promotion.
