7 Simple Things to Do Before You Start Your Business Branded Channel on YouTube

This post is part 2 of 3 in the series How To Start a Business Branded YouTube Channel

Before you create your new YouTube business channel, make sure you have these essentials ready. This checklist will help you prepare everything you need so your channel starts off strong and professional.

Once you’ve got these seven steps done, you’ll be ready for the next phase: launching your business branded channel.

Step 1: Choose Your Channel Name

What do you want this brand to be known for? Use your business name or make it fun and memorable. It doesn’t have to match your official business name exactly. You can use a nickname, a DBA, or something creative that fits your channel’s vibe.

For Example: If you run a chicken spot but also love WWE, maybe your channel for local wrestling fans is called SmackDown Snacks or Hot Wings & Elbows. This lets you keep your food business and fan community separate while giving your staff a chance to help run the channel.

Step 2: Design Your Channel Icon

Every time you comment, post a video, or show up in someone’s feed, your channel icon is front and center. So, what do you want people to see?

Create a simple square logo (at least 98 × 98 pixels) that matches your brand or vibe. This image will represent you all over YouTube, so it should be bold, clear, and easy to recognize—even at a small size. You can design one yourself for free using Canva.

For Example: If your channel is about smoked chicken and WWE, your icon might feature a chicken with championship vibes. Think: a belt, flames, bold lettering—whatever feels like your brand stepping into the ring.

Step 3: Create a Banner Image (Channel Art)

What do you want people to see first when they visit your channel? Your banner is the first thing that catches their eye, so make it bold and memorable—something that tells your story at a glance.

Design a banner image (2560 × 1440 pixels recommended) that grabs attention and fits your brand using Canva or the tool of your choice. It should show off your brand’s personality or give a quick sense of what your channel is all about.

Step 4: Write a Channel Description

What makes your business unique? Tell viewers what you do and why they should watch your channel. Share the kind of content they can expect and how it benefits or entertains them. Keep it clear and inviting.

Remember: Many people will land on your channel through searches and interests. Include the right keywords in your description to attract viewers who are likely to like, comment, share AND SUBSCRIBE!

Step 5: Decide on a Business Contact Email

Choose an email address that others can use to manage your branded business account. This can be your domain email (like info@chickenbusinessabove.com) or any email that’s separate from your personal one.

Remember: This email will be listed publicly on your channel, so pick one you’re comfortable sharing. If needed, you can create a new Gmail account just for this purpose.

Step 6: Gather Website and Social Links

What links do you want your viewers to visit to follow you on other platforms? These could be your website, social media accounts, or even a favorite blog post that showcases your brand. Make sure these links represent your business and help your audience connect with you easily.

Create a simple list of your URLs to have ready for adding to your channel homepage, so you can easily copy and paste later. Think about all the places where your audience might want to connect with you.

Step 7: Brainstorm Channel Keywords

Think about the words or phrases your audience might type into YouTube or Google to find videos like yours. These are called SEO keywords and they play a big role in helping people discover your channel. They might include your business name, products, services, location, or topics you plan to cover.

Jot down a list of relevant keywords that reflect your brand and what your channel is about. These will help improve visibility and attract the right viewers.

With these key elements in place, you’re ready to move forward. Let’s dive into the step-by-step guide for launching your business branded YouTube channel.
